5 Decor Ideas For a Boho Wedding (That Aren’t Pampas Grass)

So, you’re loving the boho trend and want to have a boho wedding! This is definitely a fun style for your wedding design!

Bohemian style reflects a balance of textures, earthy elements, dried grasses, and vintage touches, often with a desert- or nature-inspired color palette in shades of beige, sand, khaki, terracotta, and soft or muted colors like dusty rose and sage.

Because boho style is so eclectic, you can perfectly customize your boho look with a variety of colors and decor elements. This could be vintage chic, or maybe you’d prefer a more modern look. Maybe your #weddinggoals is rustic boho or maybe you like decor inspired by groovy 70s style.

Regardless of what a boho wedding looks like to you, one of the most commonly known “boho wedding decor ideas” that you’ve probably searched on Pinterest is pampas grass. While pampas grass is trendy, it’s not the only way to bring your boho wedding to life! (And, **shhh* we think pampas grass is over-used).

To stop you from falling into the boho = pampas grass mindset, we’ve put together a list of five alternative decor ideas for your boho wedding!

Here’s how to incorporate the Boho trend into your wedding with more than just pampas grass!

1 — Dried Florals (that aren’t pampas grass) and Natural Elements

Boho wedding florals commonly feature earthy tones like brown, khaki, beige, and sand, with lots of texture and dried elements. As you’ve likely noticed, this often includes pampas grass. But, pampas grass isn’t your only option!

There are a variety of other dried plants that give the same boho look/feel as pampas grass such as fountain grass, reed grass, dried palm leaves, ferns, and cattails. Other florals we’ve seen used at boho weddings include amaranthus, lavender, and wildflowers (whether they are dried or fresh).

For a different texture and color, your bouquet and centerpieces could also include feathers or even mushrooms. Whatever your dream boho bouquet looks like, your florist will help create a stunning arrangement based on your ideal colors and style.

2 — Vintage Rugs

We predict vintage rugs are going to be a 2023 wedding trend! Surprised? There are more ways to include rugs in your wedding design than you might think! Rugs will make a statement centered under your sweetheart table, placed with lounge furniture, or used as an eclectic ceremony aisle.

We love using rugs in wedding design because they create a more inviting and homey feel in your ceremony or reception space. Rugs are also a fun way to add tasteful accent colors or patterns. Our friends at Style Society have a fun assortment of rug rentals if you’re in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area!

3 — Cacti or Succulents

If your boho style leans more desert-inspired, use cacti or succulents throughout your wedding!

We love to see these included as centerpieces and guest favors. The opportunity to gift or re-use these decor items also means you aren’t spending so much of your budget on something that will only be used on your wedding day. We’ve also seen succulents used in bouquets!

4 — Geometric Shapes

Incorporating geometric shapes throughout your wedding decor can create a more edgy or modern boho vibe. Items like terrariums (filled with dried florals or succulents, of course) or an angular wedding arbor like a triangle or hexagon will add dimension to your boho wedding.

You can bring your boho vibes to any wedding venue, but for a modern boho wedding, we especially love these Twin Cities venues: Ivory North, Pinewood, Woodhaven, and Paikka

5 — Macrame and Rattan

Macrame and rattan are also must-haves for your boho wedding. One of our favorite trends is using macrame garlands or curtains on your ceremony structure or hung on the wall behind your head table.

For your tables, you can DIY macrame candle jars and rent rattan or woven charger plates. Rattan furniture such as peacock chairs or cane-back chairs, or using macrame chair covers, will complete the look. Even tiny details like macrame earrings are a fun boho touch on your wedding day!

Creating your macrame wedding decor could be an exciting DIY project for you and your bridal party, but don’t worry if you’re not into do-it-yourself wedding projects – a quick Etsy search and you’ll find everything from macrame chair covers and backdrops to bridesmaids keychains and bridal veils!
