Our Favorite 2023 Wedding Floral Trends

Florals are one of the most impactful ways to set the tone and ambiance of your wedding, and determining how you want these to look is such a fun part of the design process!

As your wedding planner, we love working with you and your florist to determine the perfect color palette and floral style to reflect your personality! From the size of arrangements (dainty and delicate or grand and lush?), to the structure (whimsical and cascading or something more traditional and round?), to the style of the vase or vessels (modern, vintage, metallic, textured, tall, short…), each decision will change the overall look and feel of your wedding.

To provide some inspiration for your wedding florals, here are 5 floral trends we’re excited to see in 2023!

1 — Bright and Poppy Color Palettes

Citrus and sorbet tones are quickly becoming a favorite wedding color palette!

In colors like sunny yellow, mandarin orange, bright pink, and peach, flowers such as daisies, poppies, ranunculus, and dahlias are so beautiful and will add the perfect pop of color to your bouquets and reception tables! For outdoor weddings, a poppy color palette makes sunny weather even better, and for weddings at indoor venues, these vibrant tones will brighten the space.

We’d love to see this cheerful color palette for a brunch wedding! (If you’re into this idea, let’s work together. The Hutton House or Woodhaven would be so perfect).

2 — Less Greenery.

Greenery isn’t out, but we’re seeing less of it!

For the last few years, greenery has been a favorite for wedding centerpieces (you’ve probably Pinterest searched “simple greenery wedding”), but, as we just mentioned, color is in! Where greenery once was the focal point, lately our couples are asking florists to use minimal greenery.

We’re now seeing greens used in arrangements and bouquets as more of a filler than as the prominent element. On tabletops, we’ve seen the trend shift from greenery garlands and leafy clusters to flower-filled vessels or bud vases with more flowers than greens. Additionally, as we’ve seen a decline in the greenery trend, we’ve noticed that eucalyptus is no longer as common; instead, we are seeing more Italian ruscus and baby's breath.

3 — Petite Bridesmaids’ Bouquets

Bouquets don’t have to be huge to make a statement. Intentionally minimal bouquets create a soft and delicate look. We think the simplicity of smaller bouquets lets bridesmaids’ dresses stand out, which looks especially great if your wedding party is mix-and-matching dress styles, colors, and/or patterns.

And, if we’re being honest, bouquets are mostly for the pre-wedding photos and giving your gals something to occupy their hands during the ceremony; there’s nothing wrong with wanting to put more of your budget toward decor florals!

4 — Statement Floral Pieces

Speaking of your floral budget, on average, couples typically invest ~8-12% of their overall wedding budget toward flowers (greenery included). Rather than trying to put a little bit of florals everywhere, we’re seeing many couples choose certain areas of their venue that they’d like to stand out. This could be the ceremony arbor and going all out with over-the-top florals, accenting built-in aspects of the venue like a fireplace mantle or staircase, or creating a custom hanging installation over the head table or dance floor.

5 — Floral Pocket Boutonnieres

Instead of a traditional pin-on boutonniere, a floral boutonniere (sometimes called a floral pocket) is when fresh flowers look like they are, you guessed it, growing out of the jacket pocket. This is such a fun and unique way to dress up a suit or tux. Typically, florists will attach the flowers to a piece of cardboard that is easy to slip into the suit pocket. We love this look and trust us, it’s way easier than having to pin anything.
