Decor Trends You Need to Include at Your Wedding in 2023

2023 couples, it’s your year! You’ve probably been busy saving wedding tips, décor inspiration, and color palettes on TikTok and Pinterest since the day you got engaged. Now, it’s time to bring all those dreams to reality!

There are so many fun and beautiful wedding decor and design ideas shared every year (every DAY, honestly). Some wedding trends are always in style, whereas some ideas we see probably won’t be around all that long... So, what’s new for 2023 weddings? And what wedding trends will actually look good in ten years and not make you question the theme you chose for your wedding?

Here are our 7 favorite wedding trends we’re excited to see in 2023, that won’t be just a fad.

1 — “Broken” Arbors.

In place of typical rounded arches or the ever-so-popular hexagon, “broken” arbors or arches are now the go-to. Broken arbors are pillars in crescent moon shapes or arcs that “frame” the couple during the ceremony. We love this look, rather than the couple standing directly under something.

2 — Statement Escort Card Displays.

Rather than escort cards being laid out on tables or names simply printed on a seating chart sign, couples are creating more entertaining and exciting ways to direct guests to their tables with eye catching displays. We love the creativity of vinyl record walls, “take a shot and take a seat” displays, bud vases or mini sailboats with guests’ names… the possibilities are endless! There are so many fun ways you can use your “escort cards” to show off your personality and include things unique or special to your relationship.

3 — Neon Signage.

Neon signs have been popular for a few years now, and lately, even more so! Nearly all of our couples have had at least one on display at their wedding. Whether you purchase a sign with your new last name or rent a cute phrase, neon signs are a fun decor element that will standout all night.

4 — Citrus Tones & Accents.

Citrus is our new favorite trend, and we don’t mean just as color palette inspiration! One of the hottest 2023 wedding trends is actually using fruits as decor. Perfect for spring and summer weddings, adding fresh fruits like clementines and pears to reception tables is a fun, fresh touch. Look how cute these name cards are!

5 — Taper Candles.

Taper candles are back in style! These sleek candles add height to tables and work well with any wedding style; they can be tastefully vintage with brass candlesticks, sleek and modern (think black and white with clear bases), or bright and colorful with quirky-shaped bases for extra fun!

We love incorporating taper candles into your design, but we do have to warn you — they can be a bit messy! Even “dripless” candles can potentially get wax on your table linen, so it’s important to have a sturdy base and drip plate.

Pro tip: If you’re going to use taper candles, be sure to test your candle sticks in the base to make sure you have the right size. If the candles are too skinny, they won’t stay upright and if the candle is too thick, you’re going to end up with cracked candles trying to squeeze them into the base.

6 — All the Texture.

2023 is the year of mixed textures! One of the easiest ways to create a bespoke wedding design is to incorporate different textured elements for your tablescapes, such as linens in luxury fabrics like faille, panama or a natural weave, and add charger plates made from glass or rattan. We love partnering with BBJ and Linen Effects to find the perfect unique look for each of our couples!

You can also add texture (and patterns!) with rugs for your ceremony aisle and by adding throw pillows or blankets to make venue spaces more cozy. These touches of texture add so much warmth to the space. We created this cozy lounge for Mariah and Danny’s boho wedding at the Dakota Lodge (photos by Michaela Paige).

7 — Wishbone Chairs.

Couples used to covet farmhouse-style cross-back chairs, but in 2023, wishbone chairs are THE style.

These modern chairs work so well for any wedding vision, whether you’re throwing a casual garden party or a modern glam affair. And, with the woven seat, are another subtle way to add texture!

Luckily, we have connections with the few vendors in Minneapolis/St. Paul that offer these chairs!

And our prediction for an up-and-coming 2023 wedding trend: French blue aesthetic.

We know that Pantone’s color of the year is Viva Magenta, but we anticipate shades of dusty blue and French blue being a top pick for weddings this year! Especially paired with gold accents, this is the perfect soft and romantic look for any wedding!

Which trend are you loving most?

In 2023, it’s time to be bold with your wedding vision, whether you plan to incorporate any of these trends or not. Whatever you want your wedding to be, let’s make it happen.
